Experience Overview

Route 66 Southwest - Utah Scenic Tours

The spectacular Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta kicks off one of our favorite tours.  We will relive the days when Route 66 was the Mother Road of the nation.

For decades Route 66 served as an artery of goods and travel for the United States.  On this tour, you will experience some of the most unique and historical locations the route has to offer.  We will explore the historic plazas of Santa Fe and Old Town Albuquerque, take the scenic train from Williams to the Grand Canyon, visit the Petrified Forest and Painted Deserts of Arizona, marvel at the mile-wide crater left by a meteor impact in the desert, and utilized by Nasa for training the Apollo astronauts.  We will feed wild burros, explore roadside ruins, take a tour of the Grand Canyon Caves (where the term dope on a rope was first coined), in short… become a kid again.  This has been one of our favorite tours to plan and we know you will not be disappointed.

We look forward to touring with you,

The SUST staff, experienced tour specialists

We Depart Williams after a good rest we will reconnect with our route for the longest unbroken section of the original Route 66 still in existence. Home to several smaller communities we will visit areas including Hackberry and its famous General Store, Peach Springs, and Seligman where the first steps were taken to begin the restoration of the communities of Route 66.

Along the way, we will make a side trip to the Grand Canyon Caverns. Once known as the Dinosaur Caves this attraction was a favorite of those traversing the country. In its early days travelers would pay 25ยข to be lowered on a rope down over 200 feet into the cavern (truly a dope on a rope). Later a rickety staircase was installed for those willing to make the descent into the cave. Fortunately for us and our guests, a modern elevator has been installed offering easy access to the cave.

We depart the cave and make our way to Kingman AZ for dinner and Lodging.

Oatman, found in the high desert mountains of the Mojave Desert has been a favorite stop, especially in recent years. Famous for their wild burros which make their way into the streets of town every morning to be fed by the locals and tourists alike. We will stop for a time to visit some of the favorite locations such as the Dollar Bill Bar. For decades visitors have come and taped, tacked, and hung a dollar bill with the name of the visitor on the bars walls, and ceilings. Now amounting to well over a hundred thousand dollars the bar has become an attraction all its own.

After we have thoroughly explored the town, fed the burros, and said goodbye to Route 66, we will make our way to Las Vegas for our final stay on our journey. Dinner will be on us at a local eatery.

This was a fabulous trip through the beautiful landscape of the Mighty Five and wonderful additions in Arizona, Colorado and Utah. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and we entered all the Parks without any of the publicized traffic delays. The tour was comfortable and the group size (9) perfect Tom rallied our group early every day and he knew all the 'secret' back roads within the Parks to maximize our adventure. Antelope Canyon was magnificent, as was: Zion, Bryce, and Scenic Highway 12 in Utah. I highly recommend this tour company for your Utah National Park travel experience.

My wife and I chose the self guided option of the Mighty 5 plus Dead Horse and Goblin Valley State Parks with Southern Utah Scenic Tours. One word for the entire process and trip: SPECTACULAR! Will and Jaime gave us the most incredible 9 day itinerary that took us from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City. Every day was wonderfully outlined in the travel package and we felt like we had plenty of time to see every attraction. The lodging was outstanding and always close to the parks we were visiting. The restaurant recommendations were spot on every time! The local knowledge they provided in the travel package was invaluable for the entire trip and provided us with tips to sights, hikes and scenery that we would have never found on our own. We feel like we have truly experienced the beauty of southern Utah! Thanks for a wonderful trip!! Everything was perfect!

We just returned home from the Utah Mighty 5 National Parks tour. Our roomy and comfortable van held 10 people plus our guide. The tour was well planned out, our guide Kiley Bice was knowledgeable and fun, and the hotels were all great. Due to rain, one dayโ€™s plans had to be changed on the fly. Kiley had alternative activities and sights planned without disappointments or regrets. The only negative was the van had a water leak from the air unit on the roof that dripped into the van after a hard rain. Kiley informed the main office and they immediately remedied the issue by driving a replacement van to us the next day. We felt confident that the company valued our experience and supported their employees to the fullest. We would definitely tour with Utah Southern Tours again and recommend them to all our friends.
